Someday the islands will need your help...
We are currently building a database of islanders with special skills, interests, or resources who are willing and able to pitch in and help the islands get back on track after a disaster. Are you a pilot, a retired physician, do you own a crane, or are you handy with a chain saw? We're looking for folks with these skills (and many more).
There's no major time commitment. We simply want to know who you are and how to reach you. Please contact us directly to talk over your skills and how you might best be able to help out in a crisis.
One of our greatest needs during an emergency is in the area of communication. Passing information between islands and neighborhoods will be an enormous challenge. If you're interested in disaster response and have interest in this area, please contact the San Juan County Amateur Radio Society for info on joining their team.
If you're looking for a more general opportunity to get involved in disaster response, we highly recommend that you consider offering your services to either the local American Red Cross, or get involved with the Islands' Oil Spill Association (IOSA). Both are well managed and essential local programs that offer critical services to the islands in a crisis. If you're looking for even greater involvement, contact your local Fire/EMS agency about the possibility of volunteering- they are always looking for hard working and capable islanders to add to their teams.
